Eastern Sycamore, Platanus occidentalis



Habitat: A large tree which is very common on flood pains / swamp forests. Frequently used as an ornamental tree in residential areas.

Characteristics: The major characteristic of this tree is its outer brown bark which flakes off leaving large white patches of underbark. Trees attain a height of 30-100 feet and typically have a diameter of 3-7 feet. The leaves are 3 or 5 lobed and have large teeth.
