Habitat: Moist woods, slopes, bottoms, edges, along trails and roadsides--very common.
Characteristics: A small wide shrub, usually not more than 8 to 10 feet in height. Spicebush has very fragrant spicy leaves and bark, when crushed. The fruit turns bright red in the late summer and early autumn.
