Redbud, Cercis canadensis



Habitat: Hillsides, woods, and roadsides. Prefers calcareous soils. A commonly grown ornamental.

Characteristics: One of our more striking spring trees. Often seen flowering simultaneously with dogwoods. Redbud attains a height of 20-40 feet and may reach a diameter of 10-12 inches. The leaves are somewhat heart-shaped and may be 2-6 inches long. The flowers range in color from pink to purple.
