Habitat: Striped maple is very common in the Appalachians, especially at the higher elevations (3,000+ feet). It is found in woods, edges, slopes, clearings, and along roadsides.
Characteristics: Striped maple has large, 3-lobed leaves; the bark is dark green with white stripes. Most striped maples are between 6-8 feet tall, though taller ones (20-30 feet) are often encountered.
