Red Maple, Acer rubrum



Habitat: Ubiquitous in both hardwood and swamp forests; especially in disturbed areas. Frequently used as an ornamental or shade tree in residential areas.

Characteristics: A medium-sized tree usually 20-40 feet tall, but may grow as high as 100 feet; the diameter of most, mature trees is 1-2 feet. Leaves are three to five-lobed and turn red in the autumn. The buds and flowers are red.
