Hickory, Carya  spp.



Habitat: A principal tree of our mixed hardwood forests; also found in meadows, farms, and other similar areas. There are 11 species in our area, some of which form hybrids.

Characteristics: Trees range in height from 40-100 feet. Leaflets occur in groups of 5-9, although there may be as many as 17. One of the major mast producing trees of Northern Hardwood Forests.
