Elderberry, Sambucus canadensis



Habitat: An evergreen that grows in thickets, open woods, depressions, meadows, pastures, and along roadsides.

Characteristics: May grow as a shrub or tree and attains a height of 6-20 feet; the diameter of the trunk ranges from 3-10 inches. The flowers are small, white, and grow in large clusters, as much as 6 inches in diameter. Produces a purple fruit which is edible.
