Flowering Dogwood, Cornus  spp.



Habitat: Woods, and, also used as an ornamental tree in lawns, gardens, etc.

Characteristics: May attain a height of 10-40 feet; the trunk having a diameter of 12-14 inches. In southwestern Virginia the flowers begin to appear in late April and remain in bloom for a considerable amount of time (perhaps two weeks) and consist of 4 large petals (bracts).
